This online course has been created by our Victorian training team, specifically for Victorian boaters. By doing this course, we want to ensure you receive the highest quality education so you can develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to go boating safely & responsibly.
The purpose of this course
The purpose of this course is to open the eyes of new skippers to what can go wrong during a seemingly safe boating trip. Our education focuses on ways in which you, the skipper, can make changes to poor habits and execute simple actions to ensure your boating trip is a safe one.
We hear too often in the news about yet another boating accident or fatality that could have been avoided. Over the 30+ years we’ve been providing safe boating education, it’s become abundantly clear us that taking responsibility through planning and executing small, hassle-free steps goes a long way to ensuring a safe trip.
Syllabus covered in this course
During this course, we hope to pass on our extensive knowledge through 8 key chapters, so you are left with a understanding of your role in ensuring the safety of your vessel, passengers and other waterway users.
We don’t want you to just do this course to pass the licence test. We want you to this course to understand your role, the responsibilities of being the skipper and how you can have a safe boating trip.
This course not only covers the syllabus units required by Transport Safety Victoria, but also goes beyond in some key areas that we believe are the major contributors to boating safety. These units are:
- Carry out trip preparation and planning
- Safely operate a small mechanically powered vessel
- Respond to boating emergencies and incidents
There are many subtopics within each of these units, and these are covered through the various chapters in this course.
